U18 Interleague Squad.

Last Saturday our U18 interleague squad travelled to Dublin to play in the WFAI U18 blitz representing Limerick Desmond Ladies league, baring in mind we had one night of training to prepare for this competition. We travelled to Dublin with only 13 players which where Aimee Fitzgerald, Gemma Jones from Rathkeale, Alice Brislane, Ashley O Brien, Sinead Nix from NewcastleWest, Rebekah Daly, Norma Leahy,  Siobhan McCourt from Abbeyfeale, Catherine Fitgerald from Adare, Lia Fitzgerald, Samantha Martin from Glin, Aiofe King from Carrig Celtic & Stephanie Anderson from Ballingarry. Our first game up was against our neighbours Limerick District it was a great game and we were unlucky not to come away with three points as the game ended in a nill all draw, so one point in the bag. Next game we played Wexford, another tough game, Wexford scored the only goal in the last minute of the first half, we were unlucky not to get a draw out this game as the girls fought hard to the final whistle. Next game was Dublin, the girls were wrecked and cold at this stage and with only a squad of thirteen the girls didn’t have much rest. Injuries &  the rain & hail didn’t help us either, it was very hard for us to put up a good battle to a Dublin squad of twenty who were a great team they beat us 5 nil. Despite this we had a great day, all the girls representing the league done us proud & their clubs. I have no doubt in my mind they will have go places and looking forward to the summer league well done girls keep up the good work.

On behalf of the league we would like to thank Mary Brennan & her management panel & the players for doing us proud. This was the first time the league entered a competition of this level with the U18’s, we hope this will be the first of many as the Munster WFAI are looking into running an U18 interleague tournamen next August &l running it on a league basis.
